Assembly Member RE: Support AB 1058 Dear Assembly Member , I urge you to support Assembly Bill 1058, a bill that would reduce greenhouse gas emissions from passenger cars and trucks in California. Greenhouse gas emissions are a major contributor to global warming, one of the biggest environmental threats facing us today. In the past 100 years, average global temperatures have risen more than 10 degrees Fahrenheit. As a result, oceans are warming, sea levels are rising, glaciers are disappearing, and many species of plants and animals are dying off. Continued rising temperatures could lead to a number of severe consequences, including an influx of tropical diseases, an increase in the amount and severity of natural disasters, the erosion of thousands of miles of coastlines, and a dwindling water supply. California's contribution to the global warming problem is significant and disproportionate. Home to just 0.5 percent of the world's population, California emits nearly two percent of global carbon emissions, mostly from the transportation sector. AB 1058 addresses this large source of damaging greenhouse gas emissions by instructing the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to develop and adopt regulations that achieve the maximum feasible cost-effective reductions of CO2 emitted by passenger vehicles. AB 1058 provides a chance for California to become a national leader in efforts to reverse global warming. Please seize this important opportunity by voting in favor of AB 1058 and by urging all of your colleagues to support this crucial legislation. Most Sincerely,
