RE: Stop industrial logging of Clayoquot Sound's ancient forests!

Dear Mr. Slaco,

I am deeply disappointed in your new Forest Development Plan for Clayoquot Sound in Tree Farm License 54. This ten-year plan was approved despite rejection by local First Nations who claim territorial rights on the land where you are logging . Temperate rainforests, like Clayoquot Sound, are one of the most endangered ecosystems on earth, originally covering only a small fraction of the earth's surface. Clayoquot Sound, a UN Biosphere Reserve, is the largest tract of temperate rainforest left on Vancouver Island, an island that is already three-quarters clear-cut logged. Your operations fragment vital wildlife habitat and disrupt the natural evolution of this rare ancient temperate rainforest. Several of your cutblocks lie on the border of Pacific Rim National Park, one of the most ecologically endangered national parks in Canada.

I also strongly object to your plan to log in two of the last large pristine areas of Clayoquot Sound, the Sydney Valley and the Pretty Girl Peninsula. Any industrial logging activities in this series of adjacent untouched valleys would irreparably alter the characteristics and ecological importance of these wilderness areas.

I will not purchase Interfor old-growth products. As a consumer I only purchase old-growth-free wood and paper and encourage my family, friends, associates and patients to do likewise. I support all efforts to end the industrial logging of Clayoquot Sound's ancient forests.

Most Sincerely,
