RE: My comments on grizzly bear habitat

Dear Forest Service staff,

I am deeply concerned about the Forest Service's plans to remove Yellowstone's grizzly bears from the endangered species list. As the Forest Service revises the plan, I strongly urge you to select Alternative 4, which would protect important wildlands, restore degraded habitat and maintain habitat within and between grizzly bear ecosystems.

The Forest Service's preferred alternative (Alternative 2) would fail to protect bears where they live today and where they will need to live to achieve long-term recovery. I also firmly oppose delisting the Yellowstone grizzly before adequate habitat has been protected.

Thanks to Endangered Species Act protections, grizzlies still survive in the lower 48 states. But given that grizzlies remain at only one percent of their former numbers, we should not be taking chances with their future. Today, habitat is more threatened than ever by energy and other development. If grizzlies are removed from protections too soon and important habitat is destroyed, we may never be able to achieve long-term recovery.

Please choose Alternative 4 and do everything possible to ensure Yellowstone's grizzlies remain adequately protected.

Most Sincerely,
