Representative RE: Support House Joint Resolution 72 Dear Representative , I strongly urge your support of House Joint Resolution 72, which rolls back all the new FCC rules approved last year. The recent events surrounding Viacom, owner of CBS and MTV, further demonstrate the recklessness of today’s media conglomerates, concerned much more with profit than the public interest. While important national issues are ignored on mainstream TV, media conglomerates chase profits with little concern for the American people. The ability to carry on informed debate and discussion of current events is part of the founding philosophy of our nation. Our forefathers believed that democracy was best served by a diverse marketplace of ideas. When the FCC allows our media outlets to continue rapidly merging, it flouts the guidance of our founding fathers. For the preservation of our democracy it is essential to have free and independent and diverse media. The FCC rules are a step in the wrong direction and must all be rolled back now! Please take an important stand to protect the integrity of our democratic process by co-sponsoring and supporting House Joint Resolution 72. Most Sincerely,
