RE: Stop corporate give-away in Medicare bill--Support H.R. 4304

Dear Representative ,

I am writing to urge you to support legislation to "Take Our Money Back from the HMOs," H.R. 4304. Please immediately add your name to this bill as a cosponsor and work hard to make sure that it becomes law.

The $46 billion in HMO payments in the recently passed Medicare bill is more than three times the cost that the Bush team told Congress and the American people. And worse, top Bush officials threatened to fire the analyst who wanted to tell the truth about the real cost of the law.

The Congressional Research Service recently concluded that the Bush team's threats were patently illegal -- but the billions in taxpayer dollars they tried to cover up are still scheduled to be paid out to HMOs -- over $500 million this year alone!

Congress and the American taxpayers were swindled. I am counting on you to make things right.

The new "Take Our Money Back from the HMOs" law would simply take a red pen to the Bush prescription deal, which incredibly prevents the federal government from negotiating with pharmaceutical companies for lower drug prices, and would eliminate provisions that dole out billions of taxpayer dollars to HMOs. It is as simple as that. The new law would save American taxpayers $46 billion in bogus payments to HMOs.
