RE: Support commission to investigate flawed intelligence

Dear Senator ,

I urge you to support S. 1946, which would set up an independent commission to investigate how the Bush administration built a case for war in Iraq based on flawed intelligence. We need to do everything possible to protect American credibility at home and abroad by assessing what role the intelligence community and the Bush administration played in this intelligence breakdown.

The Bush administration's case for a war in Iraq was largely based on the imminent threat its weapons of mass destruction (WMD) posed to our country. However, we now know that much of this information was inaccurate. Moreover, former U.S. weapons inspector David Kay told the Senate and the press that he didn't believe Iraqi WMD existed.

As an American citizen, I have the right to know how my government used faulty and distorted intelligence to mislead Congress and the American people and justify an ill-conceived war.

It is absolutely essential that you hold the Administration accountable to the American public by cosponsoring S. 1946. I also urge you to make public statements in support of an independent and thorough investigation into the government’s handling of intelligence information on Iraq. Any investigation should include hearings open to the public with testimony from government and outside witnesses and any published reports should be unclassified for the American public.

I will closely follow your actions in this urgent matter.

Most Sincerely,
