Senator RE: Support Climate Stewardship Act! Dear Senator , The Climate Stewardship Act (S. 139) will be considered by Congress again this summer, and it is absolutely urgent that it be passed as a modest but crucial first step in limiting heat-trapping gas emissions. The United States leads the world in emissions that cause global warming, and our emissions have climbed 12 percent since 1990. For the sake of our future national, economic and environmental security, we must stop our irresponsible foot-dragging and begin to address this vital issue. S. 139 is a good start. This bipartisan legislation would cut global warming emissions from the biggest polluting industries in the United States. The bill's market-based provisions would reward innovative companies that cut pollution the fastest, while minimizing overall costs to industry. Scientists agree that unless we start cutting global warming pollution, temperatures in the United States and around the world will continue to rise and we will face increasing droughts and wildfires, heavier rains and flooding, rising sea levels, devastation for coral reefs, melting tundra, and widespread loss of wildlife and their habitats. Increasing world-wide environmental stresses caused by global warming will affect food and water security worldwide, leading to increasing instability and threats to our national security. Please fulfill your responsibility to protect the well-being and security of Americans by supporting the Climate Stewardship Act and by doing everything in your power to secure its passage and enactment into law. Most Sincerely,
