Derek Pannell RE: Please abandon Alumysa project! Dear Mr. Pannell, I am very deeply concerned about your proposed Alumysa aluminum-smelting project in Chile's Aysén region in the heart of Patagonia. Because of Aysén's remote location, low population density and the low-impact lifestyle of its residents, the region remains one of the least contaminated places on the planet. Aysén's forests are home to plants and animals found nowhere else, and its wild fjordal seawaters provide important habitat for dolphins, sea lions and whales. The Alumysa project would drown 25,000 acres of wild mountain forests, lakes and rivers for electricity production to power the aluminum smelter -- forever changing the ecology and the landscapes of the region. It would also dump hundreds of thousands of tons of waste and pollution every year into one of the cleanest environments in the world, threatening marine mammals, forest wildlife and human beings alike. The Alumysa project is utterly incompatible with Chile's Patagonia. I join millions of concerned citizens worldwide in strongly urging your company to publicly abandon this project. Most Sincerely,
