RE: Please keep Southern Coastal Road out of the Olivillo Coastal Forest!

Dear President Lagos,

I am deeply concerned that your government may reverse its earlier decision and revive plans to build the destructive Southern Coastal Road project through the Olivillo Coastal Forest.

As you know, the Olivillo forest is the last significant block of temperate rainforest habitat in Chile's coastal range. Constructing a road along the coast would destroy the most fragile and biologically important portion of this forest, and open the rest to further degradation. This calls for preventative measures now.

I urge you and your government to ensure the long-term protection of these globally significant native forests by permanently canceling or rerouting the road and creating protected areas to preserve this important stretch of native forest for future generations.
