Senator RE: Initiate hearings on deceptions used to justify Iraq invasionDear Senator , It's time for Bush administration officials to be held personally accountable for their shameful deceptions. Even as Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald’s investigation continues, Congress should put aside partisanship and immediately launch hearings into both the cynical outing of an undercover CIA agent by officials at the highest levels of government AND into the lies told to Congress and the American people that took us to war. In his indictment of I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, the vice president's chief of staff, Fitzgerald raises critical questions about the breadth of the involvement in outing Valerie Plame, and the underlying deceptions used to justify the invasion of Iraq. Extremely important issues are left open that are likely to be resolved only through congressional hearings, with the central figures testifying under oath. The American people must know how our country went to war, and who acted to deceive us. The integrity of our government and the future health of our democracy is at stake. I urge that you dedicate yourself to initiating hearings on the lies told to the American public. I will join many of your constituents in closely following your actions on this urgent issue. Most Sincerely,
