USDA Content Analysis Team RE: My comments on proposed National Environmental Policy Act exemptionsDear Content Analysis Team, I strongly urge you to withdraw the rule you proposed on January 5th to exempt forest management plans, revisions and amendments from the National Environmental Policy Act. This exemption would remove the public's best chance for well-informed participation in and comment on how each national forest should be run. It would circumvent the required use of the best available science. And it would mean that harm to wildlife, watersheds, recreational use, cultural resources and other interests could go unreported and overlooked. The proposal would be particularly dangerous for our national forest wildlands and wildlife now that the Forest Service has already exempted so many timber sales and other development projects from review under NEPA. Our national forests are owned by all Americans, and any blueprints for long-term management of these lands should take into account the views of the public and the latest science. The Forest Service should further ensure that full environmental review is given for the agency's proposals and for any reasonable alternatives suggested by the public. Please withdraw this ill-conceived rule proposal immediately. Most Sincerely,
