RE: Comments on the Carson National Forest's proposed forest plan amendment for the Valle Vidal

Dear Supervisor Chavez,

As a concerned U.S. citizen and taxpayer and public lands user, I value the Valle Vidal's abundant and broad range of wildlife, clean water resources and vast array of recreational and sporting opportunities.

Coalbed methane development would destroy the Valle Vidal's unique beauty and resources. The Forest Service therefore should immediately and permanently close the entire Valle Vidal to energy leasing and development. This magnificent area should be protected for the benefit of current and future generations of sportsmen, ranchers, local businesses and other outdoor and wildlife enthusiasts.

The Valle Vidal's habitat, watershed and fish and wildlife resources should not simply be maintained—they must be restored and improved across the board. The Forest Service therefore should establish a management framework that reflects the common sense principle that preventing harm to the land is easier than attempting to repair it later.
