RE: Support the California Clean Money and Fair Elections Act!

Dear Senator ,

I strongly urge you to revive the democratic process in California by supporting AB 583, the California Clean Money and Fair Elections Act.

This important bill sets up a system for full public funding of election campaigns. It would place a measure on the ballot to adopt public funding for all statewide and legislative races in California. Patterned after the Clean Money systems already in place in Arizona and Maine, the California Clean Money and Fair Elections Act would give Clean Money candidates sufficient funding to run competitive primary and general election campaigns.

Establishing a Clean Money system in California means there would be more substantive political debates, more meaningful contact between voters and candidates, and more women and minorities entering politics. It would free legislators to focus on voters’ concerns rather than donor demands. AB 583 would be a major step towards restoring trust in California government and in making elected officials accountable to the people of California instead of to the desires of large corporations and other special interests.
