RE: Do not allow Big Oil to plan America’s energy future!

Dear Secretary Bodman,

I very strongly urge you to immediately cancel plans to have the National Petroleum Council and former ExxonMobil CEO Lee Raymond conduct the Global Oil and Gas Study. Such an important study should not be led by Big Oil but by a balanced body such as the National Academy of Sciences.

America can and must chart a new course toward a cleaner, healthier energy future. But we need leadership at the highest levels to help make it happen. Under Lee Raymond, ExxonMobil earned the worst reputation of all the oil companies for speaking out against U.S. energy independence, investments in renewable energy, and policies to help combat global warming. Putting Mr. Raymond and his friends in the oil industry in charge of advising the administration on energy options for the future would be a disaster for our national security, our economy, our environment, and our children.

Please choose a fair and independent body to conduct this major work and please immediately remove it from the purview of Lee Raymond and the National Petroleum Council. I will join millions of Americans in closely following your actions in this vital matter.

Most Sincerely,
