RE: Protect our Constitution and stop illegal domestic spying

Dear Senator ,

I am deeply concerned that the federal government has been collecting data on phone calls that I have made in the last four or five years. I have always understood that the telephone companies were bound by law not to release information on the people that I call and who call me.

I believe your oath of office, to protect the Constitution, compels you to take seriously possible violations of the Fourth Amendment and congressional laws by the executive branch, through its program to eavesdrop on U.S. citizens using the National Security Agency (NSA), and possibly other agencies. The Fourth Amendment should protect my privacy and the privacy of all law-abiding Americans. Even further, Congress has specifically ruled that the NSA cannot tap into my phone line without a warrant based on probable cause.

The laws passed by Congress must be enforced and the NSA spying program must be investigated. I strongly urge you to oppose the Terrorist Surveillance Act (S. 2455) and the National Security Surveillance Act (S. 2453), which would whitewash the Executive Branch’s eavesdropping. I also urge you to demand a full, public investigation of the NSA surveillance program and the appointment of an independent investigator into this matter. And I urge you to support Senator Specter’s efforts to close out spending on the NSA spying program until the Bush administration comes clean.

The basic precepts of American freedom and democracy are at stake in this matter. Please do whatever it takes to stop this unacceptable violation of our Constitution.

Most Sincerely,
