RE: Support clean energy bills

Dear Representative ,

I strongly urge you to support two vitally important clean energy bills: SB 107 and SB 1368. Both bills will help California reduce our global warming emissions and air pollution while encouraging cleaner sources of electricity generation for all of California.

SB 107 accelerates California's existing renewable electricity standard by requiring regulated electric utilities and competitive suppliers to increase their use of wind, solar, and other renewable electricity sources to at least 20 percent by 2010. Using a greater percentage of clean, renewable energy sources will help to address global warming and improve the air we breathe by shifting away from an over-reliance on fossil fuels.

While California continues to lead the world in clean energy policies and is working hard to reduce our global warming emissions, utilities outside the state are considering the development of dozens of new conventional coal-fired power plants—and they hope to sell this dirty power to California. SB 1368 will ensure that any electricity sold to California comes from plants that comply with global warming emission performance standards established by the California Energy Commission—thus protecting electricity customers from the significant financial risks associated with investments in carbon-intensive electricity generation, such as coal-fired power plants.

Please support SB 107 and SB 1368 and do everything you can to ensure their passage.
