Paul Bradford, Forest Supervisor RE: My comments on Cabinet-Yaak ecosystemDear Supervisor Bradford, I strongly urge you to recommend wilderness protections for the remaining wildlands in the Cabinet-Yaak ecosystem of the Kootenai National Forest. The Cabinet-Yaak provides a vital ecological link between Yellowstone and Canadian populations of grizzlies, wolves and other wildlife. It is time to recognize the outstanding natural values of the Cabinet-Yaak by protecting the diverse wild landscapes that remain there. Areas worthy of wilderness protection include the Northwest Peaks, Roderick Mountain, Saddle Mountain, Scotchman Peaks, Gold Hill West, Mount Henry, Buckhorn Ridge, Pink Mountain, the West Fork and Mount Robinson. Protecting these lands is vital to the long-term protection and recovery of the grizzly bear. Living under the habitat umbrella of the grizzly are species such as wolverine, lynx, wolves, big horn sheep, moose, elk, mountain goats and trout -- and even an occasional woodland caribou. The survival of these species depends on the permanent protection of their habitat. The Cabinet-Yaak wildlands are in urgent need of protection. Please take immediate action to preserve them. Most Sincerely,
