RE: Support our troops by safe and orderly withdrawal from Iraq

Dear Representative ,

The American people sent a strong message to Congress this past November, and the war in Iraq was at the top of the list of our concerns.  The latest polls show that 75 percent of Americans disagree with the President’s handling of the war, and 62 percent said the war was a complete mistake to begin with.  It is now time for Congress to respond to the will of the people by acting responsibly and quickly to cut funding for this senseless occupation and to support our troops by bringing them home.

I strongly urge you to vote NO on the next 100-billion-dollar Iraq supplemental war appropriation bill and I urge you to co-sponsor Congressman McGovern's HR 4232.

HR 4232 would end all funding for the deployment of US troops to Iraq and would provide funding for the safe and orderly withdrawal of US troops.  It would also fund consultations with other governments, NATO and the UN regarding international forces as well as financial assistance and equipment to either Iraqi security forces and/or international forces. In addition, the bill would not prohibit or restrict non-defense funding to carry out reconstruction in Iraq

Since the U.S. invasion of Iraq nearly four years ago, 3,000 Americans have died, tens of thousands have been wounded, and hundreds of thousands of Iraqis have been killed.  There were no WMDs or terrorists in Iraq before the war, but the country is now a terrorist haven and the quality of life for Iraqis has deteriorated drastically.  Thousands more Americans and Iraqis should not have to die because of the Administration’s refusal to admit that this war was a terrible mistake and that the presence of U.S. troops in Iraq will continue to make the nightmare ever worse.  Congress must respond to the will of the American people.  Please cut the funding of the war and support HR 4232.

Most Sincerely,
